Fine Art Print “Diviser pour Régner”
The work challenges patriarchal oppression, highlights the dehumanisation of women, and expresses resistance against oppressive systems. The headless figure symbolises the objectification of women under patriarchal systems, where women are reduced to bodies rather than seen as complete individuals. This dehumanisation is further emphasised by the woman’s strength and determination, as she is depicted pushing against the column, which represents patriarchal structures and the oppressive weight they place on women.
The work is entitled “Diviser pour Régner” (Divide and Rule) as to allude to how patriarchal systems maintain power through division and oppression. The graffiti “a bas le patriarcaca” (down with the patriarchy) adds an element of resistance. The use of “caca” in the word play subverts the language used to describe patriarchal oppression, making it disrespectful, and further rejecting these systems.
